And as yet another year of experiencing the magic goes by, here is a re-cap of why exactly it is that we all are absolutely crazy about his music....and him of course.....!!! My Wishes Shall Always Remain: Happy Birthday Anupam Roy

I'm sharing this pic for this post for a reason .... it was the first time I met Anupam Roy, been quite some years now, and even though a lot from this picture taken then has changed now, the love, the admiration and the magic has remained the same - or maybe grown over the years.

It's not that wishing someone for birthday makes everything special and amazing, but still, it's a way to let that person know that yes, you do appreciate the presence of that person in your life, in whatever way it may be.

Anupam Roy has given me some of the most amazing moments that could possibly be created by music. They have touched me and devoured me and thrown me back in my place and taken me for a ride - and I have never had a chance to complain ... ever....

Every year I give so many reasons to love the Anupam Roy magic....

But this year?

Let me just say I am happy, I know what the man and his music means to me, and even if I don't say it out right now in as many words, my wishes and my love shall always remain.

The Song That Changed My Life

About 3 or 4 years ago on a cool and breezy monsoon day here in Mumbai, I was busy searching the internet for some new songs. I was sitting on my balcony, the dark monsoon sea stretching out in the front, and the distant lights of the Mumbai ships and the city forming small glittering dots all around.

Most of the English and Hindi tracks were already known, so I typed in ‘Bengali’ in the keyword for the search.

As I sat there in the quiet and soulful hours much past midnight, I saw a track that I had not yet heard of, but one that came popping up in all my searches.

I tried using a few different words, but the same song was popping up everywhere. Just the fact that it was mentioned everywhere and came up in every search I did was enough reason for me to give it an ear.

Before this, I don’t remember the last Bengali song I had heard, or enjoyed, or learnt enough to sing along. I don’t remember any song actually. Maybe one or two that I had heard sometime when I visited Calcutta as a kid, but even then, there were no Bengali songs that I could say I knew or could sing.

I clicked on the song. The video had a very sepia feel to it. And these frames are of course a pull for me. So I was glued on instantly. As the music began, I could feel a stirring, I could feel a pull. There was something magical happening here, something different.

Birthday Cake And A Wish

In case you forgot to wish Anupam Roy on his birthday, here's what the evening (or night) looked like! With being awarded the People's Choice Award on his birthday, the cake sure may have less sweet than the gift....

So there's the cake, as Anupam Roy cuts it while Rana Singharoy looks on...And as a wish goes up to the stars, I'm sure many many more wishes did reach over to him, from his many fans all over - wishes enough to keep those dimples flaunting and that lovely heart brimming with love and his life filled with lovely people, for the year and many more to follow.....
